Obituary

Paul Ray Combs, 67, passed away peacefully on Veterans Day morning 11/11/2023.

Paul was born on 7/28/1956 in Akron, Ohio to Mary (Gamble) and Clyde Ray Combs.  He grew up in Ravenna, Ohio with his brother Clyde, sister Lynda, and sister Renie.  Paul enjoyed playing sports during his younger years.  He especially enjoyed playing tennis with his Dad and later his boys.  Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Paul Ray Combs was a loving husband to Deborah Mae Combs (33-years) and a devoted father to his children Paul Richard Combs (wife Wendy, Monroe Falls, OH), Scott Ray Combs (wife Brandi, Winter Garden, FL), stepson Wesley Francis (wife Amanda, Leesburg, FL) and stepdaughter Amanda Francis (husband Michael Snider, Streetsboro, OH). He adored being a Grandfather (“Papa”) to Logan Ray Combs, Layni Renee Combs, Austin Richard Combs, Chelsea Marie Combs, Charlie Francis, Adeline Snider and Harper Snider (who shares his birthday).  Paul’s dedication and love for his family were unparalleled and will forever remain in our hearts.

Paul’s professional life was marked by years of dedication to his employees.  He touched the lives of many throughout his successful career as a Plant Manager at Dietrich Metal Framing in Wildwood, FL and Scafco in Orlando, FL where countless people relied on his leadership and mentorship.  Paul guided and elevated so many of his employees and earned their respect while doing so.

While his career was important, family was always the most important to Paul.  When his boys were young, he coached their baseball teams, taking them to state championship and forming a special bond with fellow coach Bob Miller.  When not coaching, and even after a long day at work, Paul loved watching all his kids’ sporting events.  He loved riding his motorcycle with his wife, Debby, until he became ill.

Paul was an avid sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, NC Tar Heels, Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys.  As his kids grew, he thoroughly enjoyed bantering with daughter Amanda, a Cleveland Indians fan, and son Scott, a Duke Blue Devils fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Mary Combs and his brother Clyde.

Paul will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His insight, wisdom, and unwavering love were constants in the lives of those he touched.  His memory will forever be cherished and celebrated.

A memorial service will be held on 1/12/2024 at 11am at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

May you find comfort in knowing he was cared about by so many co-workers here at Steel Con. We all surely missed him when he retired. Paul and I worked in the office together at Steel Con (Scafco) and shared our Love for Animals. During a remodel transition, he had no window in his office. So, I painted him a picture of a window, looking out at his dog playing under a tree. He was a nice, caring person, and will truly be missed.

I got to know Paul when he was the plant manager at the Dietrich Wildwood facility where I also worked. A great guy and always a reliable co-worker. So sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. May he rest in peace.
