Obituary
Christine Sue Solem, 66, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Chris was born in Elgin, Illinois on November 1, 1957, to Judith Barbara Nickels Benthuysen and the late Zander Frank Massingill.
In addition to her father, Chris is preceded in death by her brother, Teddy; stepfather, Ben Benthuysen and her grandparents.
Chris is survived by her mother Judith Barbara Nickels Benthuysen; loving husband of 48 years, George Melvin Solem; daughter, Nicole Schorsch and husband Tony; sons, Jason Solem and wife Vicotria and Joshua Solem and wife Leonida; grandchildren, Sean, Dylan, Jeremy, Corey, Taylor, Brooklynn, Ayden, Jaysen, and Grayson; brothers, Mike Massingill and wife Barb and Jeff Massingill; sister, Melody Wesemann; fur baby Yorkie, Kasey and several other family and friends.
Christine graduated from Larkin High School in Elgin, Illinois in 1975. She went to Elgin Community College for a year and then started working at Otto Engineering in Carpentersville and then went to work at Dominick’s in East Dundee, Illinois. She retired from Dominick’s due to her disability. She battled with MS for over 46 years. Christine enjoyed traveling and target shooting with her husband but most importantly spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed but precious memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Per Chris’ request, she will be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date.
