Obituary
Joe Arthurs, 84, of The Villages, Florida passed away June 26, 2024. Joe was born to Joseph and Anna Mae Arthurs on July 18, 1939 in Swickley Pennsylvania. He lived in the Pittsburgh area for 18 years.
Joe honorably served in the U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1963 to 1965. After his discharge, he began his search for a career. Joe’s dad had a loan with a finance company and got him an interview with the finance manager. Joe got the job as a debt collector and this was the beginning for him in the Credit and Finance field.
While working full-time, he enrolled as a part-time student and after several years, and moving to various cities, he completed 110 credit hours, just shy of 130 hours required to graduate. In five years, he had moved numerous times and got a great position in Washington DC. He accepted the role as a Finance Executive at Woodward and Lothrup, commonly called “Woodies.” This was the largest department store in the tri-state area located prominently in downtown DC. Joe continued to work and move around to many cities in the north east. While he did not graduate from the University of Maryland, the “BIG GUY UPSTAIRS” helped Joe to find unexpected success. To this day, he believes wholeheartedly that it was this relationship that directed his every move.
Joe then moved to Richmond, Virginia where he served as Vice President, Bank of Virginia, Credit Card Division, which is known as Capital One today. He met a very special lady named
Joe is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sharon Lovenbury, St Cloud, Florida and his niece Kerry Mudd who married another Joe, Joe Mudd. They now live in Huntersville, NC.
