Obituary
Beloved Mother, Nana, Auntie and friend, Phyllis passed away at the age of 88, following a period of
declining health, on August 28, 2024. She was born in Cambridge, MA to her parents Edward and Vivian
Crowley of Belmont, MA. She was raised with her sister Barbara Long and brother Ted Crowley and
graduated from Belmont High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from
Bridgewater State Teacher’s College, teaching at The Cabot School in Newton and the Kennedy School in
Holbrook. She was the wife of Robert Lewis and raised with him three children, Carol, Michael, and
Robert, in Holbrook and Hingham, while teaching full time and while earning her Master of Arts in
Reading Education. She retired from the Holbrook Jr/Sr. High School as a Reading Specialist in 1993.
She and Bob relocated to Longboat Key, FL and Sanbornville, NH, 2 sunset-view waterfront properties.
Unfortunately, Bob predeceased Phyllis in 1994. Phyllis continued to “snowbird” until 2016 when she
lived full-time on LBK, and then moved to Sarasota in 2019 to American House Senior Living Community.
Phyllis was an avid reader and travelled to many European and Caribbean countries. She loved
gardening, water aerobics, the beach, everything chocolate, and enjoyed a very active social life
wherever she lived. Phyllis also was a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts when her children
were young, and in Florida, volunteered as a poll worker and taught English to immigrants. She was also
the first Secretary to the Board of Directors at her Gulfshore Community on LBK, where she also was
active with the Beautification and Library Committees.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and husband. She leaves behind to cherish her
memories her children and their partners Carol Wise (Gary) of Sarasota, Bob Lewis (Marianne) of
Somersworth NH, and Mike Lewis (Siobhan Gilmartin and Hailey) of Hull MA; her adoring grandchildren
Evan Wise (Taylor Hill) of Weymouth MA, Logan Wise of Naval Air Station Point Mugu CA, Hannah Lewis
of Somersworth NH and Molly Lewis of Falmouth ME. Phyllis also leaves several nieces, nephews, grand
nieces, and grandnephews, as well as some treasured friends.
Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 31st at Incarnation Church, Bee Ridge Rd in Sarasota.
Live-stream of the Mass is available at www.incarnationchurch.org. A Celebration of Life service
followed by interment will take place in Sanbornville NH on September 28th.
