Obituary

Betsy Delores (Hodgson) Deutschman, 83, of Inverness FL and Sapphire NC passed away after a short illness on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Hospice of Citrus County.
Betsy is the wife of Jack, and they have been married for 64 years. Betsy and Jack had six children: Nancy (Wallace) Watson, Judy (William) Clevenger, Patty Bales and Dolly (Eric) Rogers. She is preceded in death by her son Paul and daughter Linda, parents Robert Stanley Hodgson and Gladys Evans, both originally from England, and one brother, Leonard Stanley Hodgson. She was born in Villa Park, Illinois and resided in Cary, Illinois until she and Jack moved their family to Bradenton Florida in 1968.
During the 1980’s Betsy and Jack began to spend their summers in Sapphire, North Carolina and their winters in Florida. She loved both places equally.
During her life, Betsy was mostly a homemaker, but also a school bus driver, cafeteria worker, soda shop employee, and provided child care in the home, among other part time employment. She preferred to be a stay-at-home mom caring for her children.
Betsy’s hobbies included membership in the Red Hat Society – Inverness Chapter, The American Red Cross, a Guardian Ad Litem volunteer, a member of the Oneco United Methodist Church, and she wrote a column on Sapphire-Whitewater News in the Transylvania Times in NC for several years. She loved to paint ceramics, and recently completed painting an 8 foot totem pole. She and Jack loved to travel, and traveled the country in search of a series of sculptures by Peter Wolf Toth, vacationed in both Alaska and Hawaii, and in 2002 made a trip to Paris, France.
In addition to her children, Betsy leaves a wonderful legacy of caring, loving and understanding to her 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews, and circle of friends. She will be deeply missed by everyone.
