Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Julia Ann Madison, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who joined the Lord on January 13, 2025, at the age of 65, surrounded by the love of her family in her home in Port Orange, Florida.

Julia is survived by her loving husband, Harold Duane Gibbs, a retired Air Force veteran, who will deeply miss her companionship and love. She is also mourned by her children, Contessa (Scott), James (Stephanie), and Sara (Devon), who cherished her as a wonderful mother and mother-in-law. Her grandchildren, Scottie, Davis, Isabella, Tyler, Jacob, and Jax, will remember her fondly as “Nana”, whose love and guidance touched their lives in countless ways. Born on February 12, 1959, to Gene and Daisy Mays, Julia is also survived by her siblings, Tony, Mitzi, and Tori, who will miss her dearly.

Throughout her life, Julia was known for her passion for quilting and seamstress skills, which she shared with others through her participation in sewing circles in North Carolina and Florida. Her love of Jesus and her craft inspired many, and her legacy will continue to be felt through the countless lives she touched.

In her later years, Julia pursued a new calling as a licensed clinical therapist, dedicating herself to helping others struggling with mental health issues in the mountains of North Carolina. Despite her own brave battle with pancreatic cancer, Julia remained committed to her work and her faith, inspiring all who knew her with her courage and resilience.

One of Julia’s greatest joys in life was the beach, and she was blessed to have been able to fulfill her dream of living by the ocean in her final year. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that she is now at peace, surrounded by the love of her Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Julia’s honor at the First Baptist Church of Bryson City, North Carolina, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 3 pm. All who knew and loved Julia are invited to attend and share in the remembrance of her life, her love, and her legacy.

My love, thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family. Julie touched our lives in so many different ways. Having her as a cousin, friend, quilting buddy and confidant has been such a blessing. I will miss her so very much. I am so thankful that I had a chance to go to Florida to visit for a few days in July.
    God Bless
