Obituary

Carol DeWitt, 78, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, in Ocala, FL.

Born on May 12, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, Carol was the daughter of Etta and Harry Turkin. She graduated from Union (NJ) High School in 1965 and from American University in Washington, DC in 1968. She married Bruce DeWitt in 1969 and together raised two sons, living in Cranford, NJ, Monroeville, PA, Wilmington, DE, and retired to Ocala, FL.

She spent 40 years in advertising sales, much of it with the Yellow Pages and later in print and radio media. She worked hard throughout her career, built lasting relationships with clients, and had a natural ability to connect with people.

She had a lifelong love of books and Broadway musicals, was devoted to synagogue life wherever she lived, and stayed closely connected to family and friends, often calling to check in, keep track of everyone, and make sure things were done the right way (in her opinion).

Carol is survived by her husband Bruce; her sons Andrew (Sarah) and Gregory (Stacy); her grandchildren Collin, Evan, Jacqueline, Harper, and Toby; her sister Diane Turkin and her brother Matthew Turkin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Nancy Turkin.

A Memorial Service to honor Carol will be held on Sunday, December 21st @ 2pm  at Temple Beth Shalom. Following the service, there will be a reception in the social hall and time to be together with the family to celebrate Carol’s life and offer comfort.

Shiva will take place in Pittsburgh, at Sarah & Andrew’s home, on Sunday, December 28th, from 7-9pm (service at 7:30).

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Hospice of Marion County – Cates House for their compassionate support. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Carol’s memory, may be made to Temple Beth Shalom in Ocala jewishocala.com, Temple Sinai in Pittsburgh templesinaipgh.org, or the charity of your choice.

After cremation, Carol will be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida, where she will rest in honor alongside her husband, Bruce, a Vietnam War veteran who served in the US Air Force. Though Bruce survives her, their shared wish was to be laid to rest together in recognition of his military service.
