Obituary
Connie Slater Bowling, 75, died May 5, 2024 at her home in Punta Gorda.
She was born June 18, 1948, in Hastings, NE, to Darrell and Lillian Slater. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1966 and Bryan Memorial School of Nursing in Lincoln, NE, in 1969.
After receiving her degree in nursing she went to work at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, and later worked at the Hastings Regional Center.
The last 26 years of her career she worked for Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, retiring in May of 2008 as Program Manager for Psychiatry and Addictive Diseases. She was named a Great 100 Nurse for Dallas/Fort Worth in 2001 and served on the state Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses (TPAPN) board from 2000 until her retirement. In 2005, she received the Alumni Service Award from Bryan School of Nursing.
Connie enjoyed traveling and often combined that interest with her love of scuba diving and her passion for underwater photography. She dived extensively in the Caribbean, and traveled to the Philippines and Indonesia to fan her passion. It was her love of the ocean and scuba that led her to spend winters in St. Croix, USVI, during her later years in life.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ken Bowling of Punta Gorda, FL; two daughters, Jennifer Morris and husband Marc Harris of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Erin Bowling of Garland, TX; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Ron Collister of Juniata, NE; and four nieces.
In lieu of flowers, gifts are suggested to the National Alliance on Mental Illness or the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
