Obituary

Elton Sherry Sledge, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on 1 January, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.  A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Elton is remembered for his integrity and loyalty as well as being a fun loving dedicated family man.

Born in Germany, Elton traveled throughout his father’s military career.  He became an Artillery officer / Army Aviator and flew Chinook helicopters in Vietnam.  His career took the family far and wide.  After retirement, Elton also excelled in his second career of teaching German language and culture at Oviedo High.

Elton’s passion was golfing with “the Guys” or with his sons. He was a long-time member of LPGA International and won the course’s Match Play Championship.

Elton’s life is celebrated by his loving wife and partner of 50 years, Janet, his sons, Elton III (Cari), Nicholas (Priscilla), and Michael Sledge.  He was “Daddo” to his adored grandchildren Eric, Nicole, Alexander, Carson and Leila.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Henriette Sledge and his brother, Larry Sledge.

The family will gather to honor him and share treasured memories at a future date.

Aunt Janet, Trey, Nick and family, I cannot put into words of what a beyond incredible Uncle that Uncle Elton was to have. It was beyond a privilege and honor that it was to have him in my life not just as my Uncle but also as my Godfather. He was always kindhearted and loving towards me as his nephew no matter what the circumstances were.

I will never forget the heart that he had for everyone in his life, including for myself and my Mom (Kathleen (Kathy) Marie), not just as his Sister-in-law but he treated her as his Sister. He impacted my life in such beyond wonderful ways and I am so glad I got the opportunity to see him one final time last September here in California. Uncle Elton you will always be in loving memory for many including your nephew Ryan John. Much love to my Aunt Janet, Trey and Nick who are beautiful extensions of him.
    Love Always,

    Ryan John Inclan
