Obituary
Gary Mattson, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, at The Villages Regional Hospital Spanish Plaines. He was born June 23, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI to Lewellyn “Lew” and Lorraine (Blaedon) Mattson. He graduated from Custer High School. He married Karen Telderer on December 15, 1962. He was a police officer with the City of Milwaukee for 30 years, including the Milwaukee Tactical Unit for 17 of those years. After retiring from the Police department, he pursued his passion for golf and worked as an Ambassador at both Brown Deer golf course in Milwaukee, WI and Lopez Legacy Golf CC in The Villages, FL for 15 years. Gary enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golfing with his buddies. He was an avid Green Bay Packer, WI Badger and Milwaukee Brewer fan. There was nothing more important to him than his family, and whenever his family was near, he would smile and say “It doesn’t get any better than this.” He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Karen and his four children, Jeffrey (Kristin), Judith (Jeffrey), Cynthia (Jeff), Lori (Michael), 8 grandchildren, Kallyn (Dave), Scott (Austin), Daniel (Molly), Christopher, Rachel, Marcus, Joseph, Matthew, 4 great grandchildren, sister Ilene Davis (the late Allen Davis), and many other dear family and friends. We are deeply grateful for the dedication, expertise, and compassion of the Villages EMS and the doctors and nurses at The Village Hospital, who provided such loving care to Gary. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
