Obituary

Harold “ Bart” Whittemore, Jr a long time resident of Ayer MA and most recently of Fleming Island, FL passed away on January 12, 2025.

Bart was born in Rutland VT on May 16, 1930, son of the late Harold B and Marion Frank Whittemore.  Bart was a great athlete growing up.  He played hockey and baseball at Framingham High School and later at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH.  He then went on to the University of Massachusetts and became a career salesman.  He was passionate about the fruit growing business in New England.  Customer service was a passion and he made a priority to get his customers the materials they needed as soon as possible which regularly led him to leaving very early in the morning to drive the materials himself  to customers throughout his territory

While work was important nothing was more important than his family and in particular his children.  He dedicated his life to ensuring that they had everything they needed, and to support them in any way possible.  The memories he helped forge will never be forgotten.  Bart also enjoyed spending time with family at his uncles home in Scituate MA.   Many hours spent with them growing up, and as an adult helping to prepare their home for a family lobster cook out, much enjoyed by all!  Bart leaves his four children,  Marion J Whittemore and Pamela Bousquet’s of Jacksonville, FL, Harold B. (Tiger)  and his wife Shari of Townsend, MA;  R Blair Whittemore and his wife Sigrid of Nuremberg, Germany, and John Whittemore and his wife Lisa of Merrimac, MA and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Bart was predeceased by his first wife Virginia Giles Whittemore, His second wife Susan (McNerny) Whittemore,as well as his sister Martha Whittemore, and two of his children, Thomas Whittemore and Sarah Whittemore.

A burial service will be held at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Watertown, MA on May 3, 2025.  Time will be shared at a later time.

Thank you Bart for being a great neighbor to me in Legacy. You introduced me to hearts and the Leesburg Lightening. We enjoyed many a summer night at the baseball field.

Bart was more my "big brother " than cousin. He was the Whittemore family story teller and historian. I am grateful for all he taught me and am able to share. He will always have a very special place in my heart.
