Obituary
Ina Ann Whitley Hames was born in Atlanta on March 9, 1929, and passed away peacefully at The Mayflower on July 27, 2023. Known throughout life as Ann, she was the second daughter of William A. and Tommie Lee Sanders Whitley.
A true Southern belle, Ann graduated from Decatur Girls High and attended Georgia State University. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Clifford Moffett Hames, who preceded her in death in 2003. She has been a resident of The Mayflower since he passed.
Cliff and Ann moved to Orlando in 1952 where he began his banking career with the First at Orlando Corporation, later to become SunTrust, now Truist. They had two children, Susan Annette Hames Furner and Laurence Clifford Hames, both of whom still live in Winter Park. A great source of family pride is its relationship with First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, where this past spring the family celebrated the baptism of the fifth member of the fifth generation of the Hames family at the church.
Ann is survived by her children, Larry (Jane) and Susan (widowed from Bill Furner); six grandchildren: Michael Todd Furner (Jeannette), Jennifer Furner Llewellyn (Greg), Amanda Leigh Furner Selz (Ken), Lauren Anne Hames Bradley (Thomas), Lindsay Jane Hames (Bob Mehr), Leigh Ellen Hames Cleeveley (Peter); and twelve great-grandchildren: Joshua Schaeffer, Zachary Furner, Jonathon Llewellyn, Jacob Llewellyn, Ethan Furner, Beatrice Elizabeth Bradley, Madeleine Bernice Bradley, Parker Ellen Cleeveley, Kenzie Selz, Blake Selz, Paul Hames Cleeveley and Patrick Mark Cleeveley.
A private family service celebrating Ann’s life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery where she will be interred next to her husband of 57 years. The family asks in lieu of flowers that any donations be made to the Heart of the City Foundation – Hames Scholarship Fund, at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, 106 East Church Street, Orlando, FL 32801.
