Obituary
Janice Marie Kaeding of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away surrounded by family and friends on June 23, 2023, at Advent Health Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Janice Marie Kaeding, the daughter of Henry and Jean (Evans) Nickel, was born on July 8, 1947, in Fargo, North Dakota. Jan was baptized and confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, North Dakota. She graduated from Central High School, Fargo, North Dakota. On April 20, 1968, Jan married Albert Kaeding at Messiah Lutheran Church and they settled in Fargo. After that, Jan moved her growing family nine times before settling at her Florida home.
Jan stayed busy raising her children and maintaining her family home. She liked to work with a large variety of handicrafts and had a small business called “Needle Sentiments.” Jan was an accomplished quilter and won several national awards for her work. She taught quilting locally for many years. At one time she taught sewing to a group of ladies who were legally blind. Jan attended Grace Lutheran Church in Ormond Beach and was a member of the congregational council for a time.
For Jan, love was an action word. She didn’t just tell people she loved them; she showed them. She led by example how to be a great mom, wife, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend. She was present with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whether it was on the soccer sideline, choir concert, award ceremony, ride to the doctor, or whatever was on the schedule. You were always welcome in her home and there was always room for you in her heart. Jan was liked and well cared for in her final days by the care staff at Advent Health hospital.
Jan is survived by her husband Albert; her sisters Peggy (Vern) Spitzer, Fargo, ND, and Lori (Brian) Olek, Felton, MN; her children and their spouses, Bennie (Gayla Thomas) Kaeding, Moorhead, MN, Jessy (Mark) Crabb, Ormond Beach, FL, April (Dwight) Rattigan, Apopka, FL, Joy (Dave) Liddle, Astor, FL, Nicole (Jimmy) Spicer, Ormond Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Bobak, Mia Lipscomb, Casey (Haley Claxton) Crabb, Jordan (Caitlyn Stelter) Crabb, Riley (Sophia Kuszik fiancé) Crabb, Anthony Rattigan, Alizabeth Rattigan, Aidan Liddle, and James Spicer; and her great grandchildren, James Crowley, Evan Bobak, Liam Bobak, Timothy Kaeding, Bella Burger, Jhett Burger, and Hasley Crabb.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Henry Nickel and her granddaughter, Haley Rattigan.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Ormond Beach, FL on August 12 at 10:00 am with interment following the service in the Garden of the Resurrection at Grace Church. There will also be a reception following. Arrangements were made with Baldwin Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, FL. Friends may sign the online register book at www.baldwincremation.com/obituaries/Janice-kaeding/
The family requests that memorials be given to your local Hospice or to Florida Hospices (www.floridahospices.org) in lieu of flowers.
