Obituary

Jeannette A. Ajluni, 98, affectionately known as, Jan, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, May 12, 2024, with family by her side. She was born October 17, 1925, in New Kensington, PA to the late Helen and Elias Barham. Jan’s strong faith in God guided her path through life, and she became a founding member of the Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Ormond Beach. Many early church services were held in her home until a building was secured. She and her late husband Nasif raised five sons, all involved with Boy Scouts. She was a Cub Scout Den mother, Eagle Scout mother, and grandmother of two Eagle Scouts. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking Arabic food and entertaining out-of-town relatives and friends. Her most cherished tradition was hosting week-long family reunions for her sons and families. Jan belonged to the local chapter Beta Sigma Phi, a national service sorority that assists needy women. She enjoyed modeling outfits and hats at the club’s annual fashion show fundraisers, even in her 90’s. Jan also was a member of the Al-Salam club for many years. She enjoyed traveling the world, including the Middle East, Africa, Europe, China, Hong Kong, and Alaska. She also enjoyed playing bridge and painting with watercolors at the HUB in New Smyrna Beach.

Jan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Nasif Ajluni; son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Lore Ajluni; sisters, Miriam Ajluni, Gloria Sirhan, and Jeannie LaBudie; brothers-in-law, Karim Ajluni, Aziz Kassis, Musa Rabah, Suheil Ajluni, Bajis Ajluni, Awad Sirhan, Thomas LaBudie, Marvin Sophieia, and Robert Fahoome; and sisters-in-law, Suheila Ajluni, Karima Kassis, Farida Rabah, and Catherine (Katrina) Ajluni.

Jan is survived by her devoted sons, Fred and daughter-in-law, Pam, Louis, Thomas, and Robert and daughter-in-law, Brenda; daughter-in-law, Lisa Ajluni; grandchildren, Jessie Ajluni Morgan and husband, Chris, Anthony, Emily, Cole, and Quintan Ajluni; loving sisters, Rosemarie Sophieia, and Eleanor Fahoome; brother-in-law, Anis Ajluni and wife, Clare; and many adored nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9AM – 11AM, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 375 Fleming Avenue, Ormond Beach. Her funeral service will follow immediately at 11AM. A burial service will be held at Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach and a Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the Holy Cross Orthodox Church.

Auntie Jeanette will be missed. My earliest memory was visiting the family in Orlando when Disney World first opened I believe in 1970. Mark taught us how to fly gliders (with Fire Crackers). All my love to the family. Emeel and Elizabeth Ajluni
