Obituary

Larry Lee Hackman, age 79, originally of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 26, 2025.

Larry was a 1964 graduate of Richmond Senior High School. He served his country in the National Guard and worked most of his career writing software packages for point-of-sale retail systems and consulting. He lived all across the United States including Indiana, Florida, Virginia, Arizona and Pennsylvania before returning to Florida to retire. He enjoyed traveling and vacations, he and his wife proudly cruised thirty-eight trips to various countries and ports around the world.

Larry was a bowler, golfer and avid television watcher keeping up with ESPN sports, especially golf and Nascar. He loved keeping lists to be sure he had not missed out on any of his favorite programs, games or movies. He loved collecting things such as baseball cards, coins, comic books and Star Wars memorabilia. He was an animal lover, he loved birds of all types, whale watching, wolves and more recently sloths. He traveled to be able to see these creatures in their natural habitats in his travels. He loved playing card games, poker and casinos.

Larry was a devoted and loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend. He always cared for others before himself.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eve Pauline Wilcox Hackman, as well as his sisters, Barbara Vosmeier, Betty Lou Mayberry and Alberta Lanman.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann McCague, his daughter, Vonda Matthews, grandson Peyton Matthews, stepson Ken McCague and his brother, Gary Hackman as well as several cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
