Obituary
Luis Antonio Nieves, 75 of Bradenton, Florida passed away peacefully at Manatee Memorial Hospital on May 1, 2021. Born in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, to Ignacio and Irma Nieves, Lu is the oldest of seven. He calls the streets of New York home, where he cheered on his beloved Knicks, Yankees and New York Giants, and graduated from Boys High School and Pace University. While his career lead him on a path to business and finance, his passion lives in music and literature, inspiring him to pen his first novel. Lu is a natural born leader and role model, loved and respected by those whose lives he touched. He defended our nation, serving in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Despite the many honors and accolades, Lu is most proud of his family, which he raised in Leonia, New Jersey. He is survived by his mother, Irma, wife, Lisa Nieves of 50 years, his four daughters, Lisa Mateo, Irma Hebenstreit, Myra Rojas and Rita Tatum, 8 grandchildren and 6 brothers and sisters. A private visitation for family with Military Honors will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society on Friday, May 7th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at 3825 E State Rd 64 Suite 300 Bradenton, FL 34208. A service to celebrate his life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 22nd at 11:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Leonia. In honor of his love for music, if you would like to make a one-time donation to his favorite independent public radio station, 90.7 WFUV, log onto https://support.wfuv.org/ and write “In memory of Luis Nieves” in the comments section.
