Obituary

On January 2nd, of this new year, M. Rene McDonough passed away at the age of 89.

Rene was born to Walter and Margaret Kuhnert, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the eldest of 4 girls…her sisters are Noel Ladd, Andrea Kuhnert, and Cherie Baehler (deceased). She graduated from Notre Dame High School and went to St. Louis University.

She married Jerry Timmermann and they had 3 daughters.

In 1966, the family moved to Columbus, Ohio due to employment transfer.

As often happens, life changed, and since her girls were all in school, she started back to work. She continued to raise her girls as a working single mom. She worked as a Regional Sales Representative for several major companies including Coty Cosmetics, Hallmark’s Springbok Gift Division, and Revlon.

She later met and married Joseph F. McDonough. They eventually retired and moved to Venice, Florida, where they enjoyed playing golf. She also took up painting and then taught painting classes for over 20 years. She was married to Joe for 38 years when he preceded her in death, in 2018.

Rene loved life and her family. She loved crafting, painting, fashion, crocheting, playing golf, cooking, shopping, walking on the beach and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her 3 daughters: Denise M. Owensby, Dion M. McCauley (John), & Dana M. Goeller (Chuck), and her stepson Joseph F. McDonough, Jr. (Cathy), 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter & Margaret Kuhnert, her grandson Kyle Owensby, her husband Joseph F. McDonough, and her sister Cherie Baehler.

There will be a Catholic Funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00am, at The Church of St. Patrick, 7900 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida, with a ceremony to follow at 1:00 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery where she will be interred alongside her husband Joseph.

We will miss Rene and know she is now back with Joe, the love of her life. What can you say about a wonderful, kind lady, talented and fun to be with. I will always recall the great times with her and Joe when the they stayed at Dan’s Bed and breakfast during their several day stop on her and Joe’s long trip from Venice to their Canadian home at Birch Lake. We will miss your visits and whipping her up a batch of Kolachky’s for the trip. May you rest in peace and let Joe know I have saved a few good jokes for him. God Bless all the family and one day we will all see your smiling face again. May you Rest In Peace my friend❤️
