Obituary

Mark Jeffrey Barton, 70, of Cape Coral, FL passed away at his home after a battle with cancer, on Saturday, December 21st, 2024, with his daughter by his side.
Mark was born in Newark, OH in 1954 to Phyllis J. (Braid) Barton and Kenneth L. Barton. Mark graduated from Newark High School in 1972. After graduating high school, Mark went to work for the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 5. Mark worked with the Highway division before transferring to ODOT Central office, where he retired in 2009 working in the Civil Engineering Department and Contracts. After retiring Mark moved to Cape Coral, FL in May of 2009.

Mark had an infectious smile that will be forever remembered by many. He had a love of everything music and riding motorcycles with friends. He served as Social Director for a local group of friends and motorcycle enthusiasts (SAMSBO) in Cape Coral and Matlacha, FL. Among the family of friends Mark built in his time in Florida, Mark had a large family of friends in Ohio as well, all of which were very near and dear to him.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis and father Ken, maternal grandparents Dorothy & Earl Braid, and is survived by daughter Ami (Tony Glancy) Barton, cousin Barry (Debbie) Braid as well as cousins and special friend Mellissa.

At Marks request, no services will be held. A celebration of life to remember Mark will be held in both Ohio and Florida at later dates.

I have been a friend of Mark’s for many years. The last time I saw him was in Newark at a celebration of life for our dear friend Andrew McConnell. I met his beautiful daughter that day. I’m so sorry for your loss Amy. I am in Sanibel until May and hope I can attend the celebration of his life here in Florida!

Mark will be sorely missed. He was a great friend, who helped me tremendously during my ODOT and TranSystem days, as well as remaining a good friend afterwards. We had a lot of fun together after those days in retirement. Amy you are a great Daughter and I’m sorry you had to go through his passing by yourself. You are in our love and prayers. Be well. Bob
