Obituary

Michael Francis Shoenberger passed from this life peacefully into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 22, 2024. Mike is survived by his wife Barbara, son Rick Shoenberger, two granddaughters whom Mike and Barbara raised and cared for, Samantha (Nick) Sanchez, Felicia (Brandon) Canady, seven great grand children, sister Kathleen (Jack) Vottero, brother Edward (Emma) Shoenberger and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mike is predeceased by his parents, James and Jane Shoenberger, brothers, James and John Shoenberger, and sister, Joan Stapleton.
Mike was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 13, 1957 and was raised in Havertown, PA.
Mike (or Bergs as his friends called him), graduated from Monsignor Bonner Catholic High School in 1976 and immediately went into basic training with the U.S. Army where he served honorably from 1976-1997 in Germany, Korea, and many US military bases, until he retired at Ft. Bragg, NC. Mike and Barbara lived and worked in the Fayetteville, NC area until their retirement to The Villages, Florida in 2021.

Mike will be remembered for his infamous humor and his deep love for his family and friends. Mike was an avid sports fan, who not only enjoyed watching, but also loved to show off his own athleticism, especially when playing golf, (give me a 13) pickle ball and softball.
A full military memorial service will take place on June 21, 2024 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 11:30am with a Celebration of Life to follow at the family home in The Villages, FL.

The family deeply appreciates the superior care provided by Cornerstone Hospice. Arrangements entrusted with Baldwin Brothers, Wildwood, Fl. Mike was truly a beacon of light to all of those who he came to be in his company. Family and friends were his priority and he treasured the times that we be spend with them. As a soldier he always set his sights on accomplishing his mission which he did successfully in his service to this country. Out of uniform he kept that same resolve in assisting others while sharing his love and talents with lovely wife and family.

I am very proud to call Mike "Bergs" my friend dating back to our early years in High School. I valued his friendship immensely and loved like a brother. Mike I know that you are continuing to soldier on and will keep a close eye on us from above, know that the many lessons in life and love that you shared with friends and family will live on for generations to come. Thank you for your friendship. Rest easy and God Bless!
