Obituary
Richard Wayne Ogorek, 72, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on November 17, 2024.
He was born in Chicago, IL on December 9, 1951 to Edward A and Dorothy Bouma Ogorek. Rick graduated from Foreman High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University (Go You Redbirds!) and earned his CPA in the state of Illinois. He was married to Sheri on July 9, 1977 in Normal, IL.
Rick spent his career in higher education administration. He worked at multiple universities, including Illinois State University, Bradley University, Roosevelt University, and Guilford College, spending most of his career at the University of Tampa. Rick was a ‘college guy’; he instilled in his children the value of lifelong learning and supported all of the institutions that they attended. Rick was an avid supporter of most Chicago sports teams and faithfully served as bookkeeper for the Men’s and Women’s basketball games at ISU and UT. He tolerated sailing (sometimes with a smile) with his wife and enjoyed the connections that he made at Boca Ciega Yacht Club.
Rick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sheri Henrichs Ogorek, his two daughters Elizabeth Ogorek of Columbia, SC and Emily Cummings (Donell Cummings) of Valrico, FL and son John Ogorek (David Fulmer) of Portland, Maine and one amazing grandson, Graham Cummings. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Hansen Leen (Tim Leen) of Plainfield, IL and several nieces and nephews.
Rick showed the importance of honesty and integrity by the way that he lived and will be greatly missed.
The family invites you to join them in sharing stories and celebrating Rick’s life and legacy on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Boca Ciega Yacht Club in Gulfport, FL from 3-5pm. Dress is casual and there will be light refreshments.
Should you desire to make a memorial contribution, the family asks that you continue Rick’s work in empowering students by giving to the University of Tampa in his name.
