Obituary

Richard Patrick Whittaker, age 77, originally from Hialeah, Florida, passed away on September 29, 2024, in Cape Coral, Florida.

Richard was born in Evansville, Indiana to Robert Paul Whittaker and Mary Lou Whittaker (Kiper) on March 22, 1947, and grew up in Hialeah, Florida. He graduated from Hialeah High School in 1965.  Richard married Dorothy J. “Dottie” Watson on January 25, 1969, and they moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1970.

Richard served in the U.S. Army for two years and received the Good Conduct Medal.  His Army training prepared him for a long, successful civilian career as an Air Traffic Controller.

The activities he enjoyed for many years included bowling and golf.  He was also an avid fisherman.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Whittaker; his father, Robert Paul Whittaker; and mother, Mary Lou Whittaker.

Richard is survived by his son, Brian E. Whittaker and grandsons Brandon, Bryson, and Finnley.  He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Whittaker Brown; sister, Sandra Whittaker Schiele; and brother, Rev. Kenneth Whittaker.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00AM at Ortona Cemetery, 8878 FL-78, Moore Haven, FL 33471.
