Obituary

Robert (Bob) Eugene Wilhite, a Navy veteran and beloved family man, passed away peacefully, on 08 January 2025.

Bob was born on 10 October 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Texi Jack and Mae Wilhite and is survived by his wife Michele, his four children, Taz (Saida), Todd (Kristina), Angela (Joe), and Ashley (Matt), and eight grandchildren: Zev, Brennan, Ryan, Adam, Evelyn, Vivian, Aubrey and Grayson. He is also survived by his brother Jack (Sue) and sister Cindy (George).

Bob served in the US Navy for over 20 years, achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.  He was a Vice President at AAI where he continued his service to the nation by delivering mission expertise and technology solutions to the Department of Defense. Throughout his career, Bob embodied the values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.  He was a consummate leader, an unwavering teammate, and a Sailor’s Sailor.

Bob was given the nickname “Luvy” by his children and friends as he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Luvy was a devoted family man who brought joy and warmth to those around him. He found great pleasure in life’s simple and sophisticated pleasures – from challenging crossword puzzles and strategic Sudoku games to enjoying golf outings with his buddies, dancing with his wife, fishing, Dragon Boat rowing, and volunteering at the driving range of the American Legion.  When he was not busy with his extracurriculars he was having beers with his friends, watching Taylor Sheridan productions, and telling jokes. His opportunities to travel allowed him to create countless memorable experiences with his wife. Luvy will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest with enthusiasm and love.

Bob’s family will hold a memorial service at The American Legion Post 347 in Lady Lake, Florida on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at noon.  A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Regional Recreation Center in The Villages, Florida. In early June, a Celebration of Life will be planned in Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory at the Wounded Warriors Project or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dear Michele & Family, Jeff & I were so sad upon hearing of Bob (aka LUVY's) passing. The Wilhites were our next door neighbors in Shrewsbury, PA for 20 years! We couldn't have asked for better neighbors. Everytime we were together, and there were many times, Bob always brought a smile to my face when he greeted me with a hug and "Hi Sweetie". Of course, we have many cherished memories of Bob; like the time he borrowed our truck to pickup a riding lawn mower. When he got home with the mower, he was struggling with how to get it off the truck. He asked Jeff how we got our off the truck. To which Jeff replied "we didn't, we had it delivered"! Well, you can imagine LUVY's response!!! Eventually, it all worked it out and he precicely mowed his lawn every week. As you can imagine, there are many more memories of our lives living next door to the LUVY family. Bob will be fondly remembered, forever in our hearts, and greatly missed. May he Rest In Peace.

Bob & I joined the Blacksheep Dragon Boat team on the same day. I will never forget his sense of humor and his outlook on life. He was one of those special people who made good times better, and 'not so good times' better as well. He will be missed by many.

When I first met Bob I knew he was special. Maybe it was because we both came from the same industry and dealt with a lot of military people. I soon found out that I was right. Bob, Brad, who many of you know, and myself were out playing golf one day. A storm was coming in and it began to rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Brad and I were looking for a bench to crawl under to get out of the way but when we looked up there was Bob walking down the middle of the fairway with no surrender and totally oblivious to the danger around him. This is when I knew he was cut from a different mold. However, my fondest memories of Bob is when he, Brad, myself and a couple of other friends would get together and go to a movie. We would meet in Lake Sumter and grab a quick dinner then head over to the movie theater where we see a movie that our wives could not stomach for ten minutes. We would kid around, bust each other up and just have a good guys night out. In closing I would like to thank Bob for having shared a small part of his life with me. It was an honor to have know him. Rest in peace Bob. You will surely be missed.

Michele and Family, we are so sorry for your loss. Bob was always happy to teach others and we know this among the Social Riders of the Lake Sumter Landing Bicycle Club because Bob and Michele would reserve a room every year to say good bye to our Snow Birds and to celebrate the Winter we had together bicycling around The Villages every week! Michele would select a theme for the evening and Bob would teach us how to play a game he selected for that evening. We loved the American theme when we all would wear red, white and blue clothing and bring a dish of a certain color to share at the Get Together! Bob was so patient with us when he taught us "Bunco", or "Left, Right and Center", or the game known as "Screw Your Neighbor"! Bob never gave up on us even if some of us were slow learners. We want to say, "Thank you, Bob and Michele for the wonderful fun times together". Bob touched so many lives and he will be very missed by so many of us who love him. Rest in peace, Bob until we meet again. With sincere sympathy, love and friendship, Linda and Jack Casto
