Obituary
Sharon Miriam Clawson, 81, of The Villages, FL died after a brief illness on April 11, 2025. She was born in 1943 to the late Hyman and Lena Mayer and grew up in East Chicago, Indiana. She spent the first half of her life living and raising a family in Indiana before moving West in 1984. She moved first to Arizona before ultimately settling in Los Angeles, CA. She loved LA and it was there that she met and married her beloved husband of over thirty years, Tom Murtaugh, whom our family sadly lost just four months earlier. They moved to The Villages in 2022 to be closer to family and we are so grateful to have had that time together.
Sharon was a deeply caring and thoughtful person whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She went out of her way to make those she cared for feel important whether through a well-timed message or specially selected gift. She was also scrappy and wickedly creative, building a sixty-year career first in hospital administration and later healthcare marketing.
She had a sharp, playful sense of humor. She loved to travel—but only if someone else handled the itinerary—and she approached every new destination with curiosity and delight. More than anything, she was someone who made people feel seen and valued. Her kindness, her humor, and her heart will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Christopher Clawson (wife Elizabeth Clawson) and Abigail Jenkins (husband Randy Jenkins); siblings, Toby and Myron Mayer, and Shirley Rainford; grandchildren, Cole and Reid Clawson, Samantha Barnes, and Joey Jenkins; as well as great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, June 17th from 11:00-12:30 p.m. at Live Oaks Community Church, located at 12070 Co Rd. 103, Oxford, FL 34484
