Obituary

Sharon Miriam Clawson, 81, of The Villages, FL died after a brief illness on April 11, 2025. She was born in 1943 to the late Hyman and Lena Mayer and grew up in East Chicago, Indiana.  She spent the first half of her life living and raising a family in Indiana before moving West in 1984.  She moved first to Arizona before ultimately settling in Los Angeles, CA.  She loved LA and it was there that she met and married her beloved husband of over thirty years, Tom Murtaugh, whom our family sadly lost just four months earlier.  They moved to The Villages in 2022 to be closer to family and we are so grateful to have had that time together.

Sharon was a deeply caring and thoughtful person whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She went out of her way to make those she cared for feel important whether through a well-timed message or specially selected gift. She was also scrappy and wickedly creative, building a sixty-year career first in hospital administration and later healthcare marketing.

She had a sharp, playful sense of humor. She loved to travel—but only if someone else handled the itinerary—and she approached every new destination with curiosity and delight.  More than anything, she was someone who made people feel seen and valued. Her kindness, her humor, and her heart will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Clawson (wife Elizabeth Clawson) and Abigail Jenkins (husband Randy Jenkins); siblings, Toby and Myron Mayer, and Shirley Rainford; grandchildren, Cole and Reid Clawson, Samantha Barnes, and Joey Jenkins; as well as great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, June 17th from 11:00-12:30 p.m. at Live Oaks Community Church, located at 12070 Co Rd. 103, Oxford, FL 34484

This was such a huge shock for us today!! We had no idea! We’re so deeply saddened by this! We knew something wasn’t right when Sharon didn’t confirm her appointment by today. She was always very punctual when it came to making and confirming our appointments to trim the shrubs around the house every three months. She never missed a beat. We absolutely loved her and Tom. I will never forget the day I met her. My husband and I went to give her and Tom a quote for their shrubs, when I started to have an asthma attack and I didn’t have my inhaler with me. Sharon ran into the house and gave me one of her new inhaler and stopped my asthma attack. After that we became instant friends! It was true miracle that she was there at that exact moment and not only that, but we both used the same exact Rx inhaler. She was a true blessing, very kind, very loving and just a wonderful lady. We always enjoyed talking her about their lives and what they did. She would always invite us in and that’s when I notice all the squirrel decor around the house. I absolutely loved it because we have raised squirrels. When I remarked about it she perked up and told me that Tom and her had also raised squirrels and she shared with me a whole album of the squirrels they had and also pictures of their life. Now we will deeply cherish those beautiful moments she share with us, not knowing That was going to be the last time we would ever see her. I know she is in heaven with her love of her life Tom now. Sharon, I will miss seeing you and miss all of our talks but, most of all we will miss your beautiful friendship. Sending Love, Prayers to all the family and friends. May god soothe and comfort all your broken hearts. We are truly sorry for you’re heart wrenching loss.
