Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Earl Marion, who departed this life peacefully in his home in Port Orange, Florida, on February 4, 2025, at the age of 78. Stephen was born on March 26, 1946, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Robert and Birdie Marion.

Stephen devoted his life to ministry, serving with unwavering dedication for over 50 years. His heart for others and his deep faith touched countless lives as he worked to spread love, hope, and the message of faith throughout his life. In addition to his ministry, Stephen also worked as a special education teacher for 25 years, where he made a profound impact on the lives of his students. He was not just a minister or teacher—he was a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of wisdom to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Stephen was a dedicated husband to Janet, his loving wife of 56 years, and a devoted father to his son, Mark Marion, and daughter, Christine Marion-Lopez. He was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Austin Marion (Amber) and Brianna Lopez. He was also a proud great-grandfather to his great-granddaughters, Kaley Hughes and Macie Marion, and his great-grandsons, Christopher Hughes, Rylan Marion, and Beau Marion.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert N. Marion, his mother, Birdie M. Marion, and his brother, Dana Marion. He is survived by his remaining siblings: Wayne (Pam) Marion, Bruce (Nancy) Marion, Bobby (Missy) Marion, and sister-in-law, Joann Marion, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Stephen’s kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He believed in building not just structures, but also relationships and memories that stand the test of time. His impact on the lives of his loved ones is immeasurable, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be part of his journey.

A man of wisdom, patience, and unwavering guidance, Stephen will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love for the Lord, his family, and his community will live on forever. May he rest in peace, knowing the profound difference he made in this world.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor and remember Stephen. Details will be shared soon.

Janet, we are sending some of the pieces of our broken hearts to you to place in the collage of your lives. Not to long ago after the flooding from Helene, we were in Galax and drove by the Smokehouse where we shared many afternoons with you and Steve, discussing legalism and mercy and of course the grandchildren. We had hope to see you last year when our grandson got married, but ran out of time. We hope you know that you were always one of the joys we looked forward to - if we could get close enough and hopefully eat at DB Pickles (please smile) again. May you and his family share the memories of his laughter and wisdom together. Thank you for giving us some of his time to help us grow in our relationship with Christ and to help others through your knowledge base. With love and virtual hugs. Lonny and Alethea

I am saddened deeply to have lost such a wonderful example in this life of what a godly man is. I know Steve had so much more to share with us younger believers, but I know that our Lord welcomed him home with the multitudes that Steve touched this side of eternity. I pray for peace and comfort for Janet and the rest of Steve’s family in this time of mourning and look forward to the day we meet again in paradise.

    God bless,
    Blake

Steve will be deeply missed at South Daytona Christian Church. He was a gentle man and he taught in such a way as to allow even an unbeliever to understand. I am certain the angels rejoiced when he entered his eternal home in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.

Steve married my husband and I 19 years ago. He prayed for me during my cancer treatment and opened my heart to the lord during that time by watching his live videos on Facebook. He was an uplifting man and I feel sure he left lasting impressions on many as he did me. I am so very sorry for the families loss and may you find comfort in knowing he’s home with his Lord.
