Obituary
Steven J. Poissant, 64, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Born to Albert and Mae (Mesec) Poissant in Mooers, New York, Steve grew up with a strong work ethic. He graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School and earned a degree in electronics from Champlain Valley Technical School. Steve began his career at Harris Graphics in Champlain, New York, and dedicated eight years to the company before the plant closed.
He then embarked on a 25-year career as a New York State corrections officer, where he was admired for his dedication and professionalism. Over the years, Steve took on various roles, including part-time positions with the United States Postal Service, Northeastern Clinton Central School bus driver, and handyman after relocating to Florida. His tireless work ethic and willingness to contribute left a lasting impression wherever he went.
In retirement, Steve embraced the warmth of Florida winters and spent summers at a Plattsburgh, New York campground. Whether maintaining the pool or helping others, he found joy in helping others. Steve had a gift for humor—his playful teasing and ability to “stir the pot” brought laughter to countless gatherings, endearing him to all who knew him.
Above all, Steve treasured his family. He loved teaching his sons practical skills to be self-sufficient, such as changing oil, installing light fixtures, building tables, and ensuring no task was left unfinished. Additionally, he loved playing with legos, cars, and dinosaurs with his grandsons. His simple joys included building fires, playing cards and darts with family and friends, sharing laughter, and making memories.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Rhonda, of 39 years; his sons, Kelly (Sarah) Poissant and Devan (Jesenia) Poissant; and his three cherished grandsons. He is also survived by his sister, Janice (Don) Rogers; and his brothers, Clifton (Nancy) Dupee and Randall (Michelle) Poissant.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and love that his family and friends will forever cherish.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2025 in Champlain, New York.
Rest in peace, Steve. You will be deeply missed and forever live in our hearts.
