Obituary

Thomas (Roger) Battle, Jr., age 83, of Trafford, Pennsylvania, resided in Tampa, FL, since 1980.

Roger was born on January 11, 1942, to his loving parents, Nellie Cashdollar Battle and Thomas Roger Battle, Sr. He graduated from Penn State University in 1963 and was a proud member of the Penn State Blue Band for four years. Roger began a 30-year career with IBM, earning recognition from NASA for his contributions to the Apollo Missions, including the moon landing, as well as many other notable projects.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vickie, and his children: Aundra, Ryan (Kim), Lee, Lindsey, and Tiffany (Jarib). Roger also leaves behind five grandchildren-Mia, Lexi, Jaden, Brody, and Vela-and his dear friend, Jim Nadar.

Roger will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his love of family, his passion for playing cards, his zeal for football (Go Steelers and Nittany Lions!), baseball, hockey, music, word searches, and his sweet tooth-especially for cookies.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 28, 2025, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 6100 Memorial Highway, Tampa, FL. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served after the service.

So glad we had at least a visit with Roger - and Michael got to play cards. Just wish I could have heard Roger play the piano! I hope you feel a great satisfaction, knowing you, Vickie, gave him the best life possible.

My sincerest condolences to sweet Vickie and her children. I am so so sad for your loss. Roger is happy and whole again, all while eating loads of cookies, but that does not make it any easier at all for those of us left here on this temporary place called Earth mourning the loss. Lifting you all up in prayer daily and sending virtual hugs as well. Love you so, so much.

    Just as a bird
    freed of his cage
    seeks the heights,
    so the Christian soul
    freed in death
    flies home to God.
