Obituary
Thomas Mason, 75, of Florida, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. Born and raised in Maine, Thomas spent his later years in Florida, where he enjoyed a fulfilling life surrounded by family, friends, and the activities he loved.
Thomas graduated from Falmouth High School in 1967 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and teaching from Northeastern University. He met Jeannette Arsenault there, were married and settled in Gray, Maine to raise their children. He was unable to find a teaching position, but gained skills in many areas, including operating and maintaining tractor trailers. He coached girl’s softball, basketball, and soccer. He helped lead Cub Scouts and was a member of the J.C.’s
He continued to live in Gray when he married Lynn Moore. They cleared the land themselves, designed and built a house on North Raymond Road.
He finally got an opportunity to teach English and other subjects in the Buckfield Co-Op program. Soon after, he taught in the Oxford Hills Region 11 Vocational School.
He had a deep love for boating, fishing, and golfing. However, it was his passion for teaching that truly defined his life. His favorite job was teaching truck driving at Oxford Hills High School, where he impacted the lives of many students, instilling in them the skills and work ethic that would serve them throughout their careers.
He married Nancy Rowe in 1995. They lived in Gray on Long Hill Road, often living in campgrounds during summer months. When he retired, he and Nancy moved to Port Charlotte, Florida after traveling to and from Maine sightseeing and camping in their camper for several years. He enjoyed being home and working around the house. If any of his friends needed a tool, they came to him.
Despite his love for God in his school age years, Tom drifted from his faith in his adult years. He overcame an extremely challenging time within the first 5 years of marriage with Nancy. With support from her and many dedicated friends and family, he was able to meet the challenge and live a fruitful life. He came to have a deep relationship with Jesus, was mentored by loving people and was able to mentor others. They found an active church, FAC, now Movement, and became members. They became very involved with Community Impact Partners. Tom enjoyed ushering and his Thursday morning men’s group. They came to love him and said he was a man of few words, but when he spoke, they listened! He enjoyed great peace in knowing where he was going after this life to his eternal home. ‘There ain’t no sinner that He(Jesus) can’t save!’ Tom’s wish is that you find hope in God by ACCEPTING the gift of salvation from Jesus.
Thomas was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 29 years, Nancy, and a loving father to his children, Heather Huff and Shane Mason. His dog, Mia, was his constant companion and support through many illnesses in his later years. He will be greatly missed by other family members and friends, many of whom were lifelong, who will forever cherish his memory. His warm spirit, dedication, and love for life will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal rescue organization in Thomas’ memory.
Baldwin Brothers of Port Charlotte is honored to serve the Mason family.
