Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of an irreplaceable husband, father, and grandfather, Thomas Victor Neyer, who passed away on October 6, 2025 at the age of 67 in Tavares, Florida.

Tom was born on March 25, 1958 in Ashland, Kentucky, to Dr. John Neyer and Vic Neyer. He was a devoted husband to Denise Neyer for 46 years, and a loving father to his three children. He was also a cherished grandfather to his seven grandchildren.

Tom was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and spent over four decades working as a Professional Engineer, most recently at DRMP, Inc.  He took great pride in his work and was respected by all who knew him. His colleagues aptly described him as “a natural leader and mentor who took on complex transportation projects and led multidisciplinary teams with expertise and dedication to both technical excellence and the people he worked with.”

Beyond his professional life, you could find Tom spending his mornings on the lake fishing and watching the sunrise. Tom also found joy in traveling the world with his wife and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He was never too tired to captain the boat for a scenic excursion or a fishing adventure, and he spent many patient hours teaching all of us about everything from Florida’s native birds to the pros and cons of a cloverleaf interchange. Tom was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan (a thankless job, to be sure) and an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. He loved music of many varied types, but especially classic rock, such as Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, and John Prine.

Tom will be remembered most for his wisdom, sense of humor, generous spirit, and his practical approach to life. He taught us the value of hard work, integrity, loyalty, responsibility, and love, and his legacy will live on in all who had the privilege to know him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Denise, his children, Erica (Ryan), Evan (DeeDee), Jonathan (Christine), his grandchildren (Peyton, Micah, Ryland, Emery, Eliza, James, and Jack), and his siblings, Ann (Jeff), John, Megan, and Steve. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, John and Vic.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at 2 PM at First United Methodist Church, 439 E. 5th Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757. A reception will be held in the church’s Friendship Hall immediately following the service. We invite you to wear Wildcat blue or your favorite fishing shirt in Tom’s honor.

Though flowers are appreciated, please also consider making a donation to the National Geographic Society, in Tom’s memory. A lifelong subscriber to National Geographic, Tom loved learning and was an endless fount of amazing facts about the natural world.

I’m lighting this candle in memory of Tom. I’ve known him for about ten years as the project manager at Florida’s Turnpike, and he was truly one of my favorite people to work with. Tom was always friendly, quick to help, and such a great mentor. He made every project better just by being part of it. This is such a heartbreaking loss — he will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Tom and I worked together at HNTB for several years and I have so many fond memories. He would come over to Bob's office all fired up and I would greet him with a, "Hey Sunshine" in a thick Southern accent. It would instantly distinguish that fire, well, for at least a minute. He made me laugh every time we talked. My condolences to the Neyer family, it was a privilege to have met and spend time with that Wildcat.
