Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter W. Bennett announce his sudden passing on Monday, December 09, 2024, at the age of 85.

Walter was born on April 27, 1939, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the son of the late Charles H. and Dorothy L. Bennett. He met and married his high school sweetheart in January of 1959 and relocated with his wife and three children to Florida, in 1982. He was a 60 year member of the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge #355, Air Force Veteran and retired from Braddock Metallurgical as a metallurgist in 2007.

Walter, better known as Wally, Walt, or Pops, was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all and a man who always made time to help others. Everyone who knew Walter felt his big heart and giving nature. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father/grandfather, southern gentlemen, sweets enthusiast, socialite, proud patriot, and by the joy he found in every cast on the St Johns River. His mark will forever be etched in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

Walter is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna J. Hardy (Thomas), Ormond Beach, Florida; two sons and two daughter-in-law, Robert W. Bennett (Tammie), California City, California, and John O. Bennett (Joanne), Edgewater, Florida; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Walter was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 60 years, Joyce A. Bennett; brother, Richard L. Bennett; grandson, Randall W. Bennett, and beloved dog Brandy.

Until we meet again, one day upon God’s golden sand….

We’ll picture you no other way than with a fishing pole in hand.

You were a great man and that is evident by your Daughter Donna. The times I was in your presence, I walked a way with a bit more knowledge then I arrived with. Your were a very smart man with great whit. Thank you for leaving others better than they arrived to you. Your service to this country will always be honored. Your time here will live on in all that knew you even if briefly. My heart and prayers to your family and navigating this earth with out you. But I know they will navigate with your wisdom and heart in mind. The legacy you left will continue on for ever. I'm proud to have met you.
