Obituary

Walter Hugo Weber, of the Clyde E. Lassen Veteran’s Nursing Home in St. Augustine, FL, peacefully passed to his heavenly home on Monday, October 7, 2024. Walter left us for Glory from Community Hospice Center at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.

Walter was born in Schmoel, Germany on January 6, 1949, to parents Emil Landwirt Weber and Marie (Hiller) Weber. At 3 years old, Walter’s family moved to Kingston, New York. He attended Rondout Valley High School. In 1966, Walter graduated from high school and joined the Marines to serve his country. He was deployed to Vietnam for three years. He was honorably discharged with three purple hearts and a bronze star medal to honor his heroism and bravery in combat.

Upon returning to Kingston, NY, Walter married his first wife, Barbara (Losey), and had four children Steven, Scott, Stacy, and Sheri. During this time, he worked as a courier for the US Postal Service. Walter spent many hours coaching both of his sons’ little league baseball and Pop Warner Football teams. In 1996, Walter moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he worked at Reddy Ice Co. as the Production Manager.

Walter met his present wife, Mary Frances, in 1998 in the emergency department at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. They married on October 14, 2000. Walter and Mary Frances enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. They attended Tomoka Christian Church in Ormond Beach, FL, where Walter accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Walter was a dedicated father and grandfather. He loved to cook complicated gourmet meals. He could always be found working around the house with various projects. Walter was an avid fan of the New York Mets, New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, and UCF Knights. If a football game was playing, you could be certain that Walter was watching it, with the appropriate hat and shirt on to root for his team. He was loved by his family and friends, and his smile, laughter, and energy will be missed tremendously by those of us fortunate enough to have known him.

Walter was proceeded in death by his parents, Emil and Marie, and his sisters Ulla Shuman , Alide Thomson, and Erika Short.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Mary Frances Weber, as well as Barbara Weber, his first wife, his children Steven (Shelly) Weber, Scott (Danielle) Weber, Stacy Thomas, and Sheri Weber, stepchildren Brandie (Bill) Berry and Col. Ryan (Christy) Schrock, grandchildren Abby Weber, Megan Weber, Zach Weber, Matthew Thomas, Stephanie Winchester, Kenzy Weber, Olivia Weber, Isabella Weber, Colton Schrock, and Cody Schrock, and great grandchildren Mason and Addyson. He is also survived by his sister Mary Weber of New York and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins that are a cherished part of his family.

A celebration of life with military honors will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Tomoka Christian Church, 1450 Hand Ave, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Everyone is welcome to attend and share your memories, then join us for a gathering that will follow at Hidden Treasure Restaurant at 5993 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange, FL 32127.

Walter will be interred at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL at a future date.
